UPDATE – Holes #13-16 are back in play. #17 (the lady) has been removed.
A big thank you to Ed Buskirk and the Club for working with the City of Santa Cruz on this restoration project!
In December 2005, Holes 13 through 16 at DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course were temporarily closed for restoration work. The City of Santa Cruz Parks and Rec Department cultivated the ground surface in this closed area, added organic soil amendments, and planted native grass seed in an effort to limit surface erosion.
The grass came in well and overall, the project was a success. It is our hope that the grass will regerminate this winter to fill in even more and will help to keep the soil in place during the upcoming rainy season.
This area of the course was reopened for public use in August 2006. A path of wood chips has been constructed across the 13 and 16 corridor to help limit the impact from foot traffic. Some reseeding may be done this winter to help the area fill in.
Watch for other changes coming in the next few months, including more temporary closures on other holes and upgrades to keep the soil around the parking lot in place.
Thanks for the support of numerous club members and course users during the restoration work. We can't do this without your support!
