Hole 3 plays down a gentle slope, with an extreme drop off on the right side of the fairway, while the basket is hidden inside a jail cell of giant Monterey pines. An oak tree just to the left on the fairway is the main obstacle to avoid when teeing off, while a large old pine stands guard along the right side. One has the option of throwing a left-turning air shot or roller over the oak, or going for the tighter straight low-ceiling tunnel-like shot to the right of the oak.
Trees down the fairway reach out and grab discs if one attempts to take a high line. There are many routes and many potential pitfalls. The view from behind the pin position below shows the multitude of narrow routes available to come in at the basket (the tee is uphill to the left in this photo).
